After 3 years of being unable to get pregnant, my husband and I never thought it was possible to get pregnant during our first IVF cycle at The Hive Fertility Centre.
My husband, Raghu, and I, Aisha, have been married for 3 years now and haven’t been able to get pregnant. After the first 6–7 months of failing to conceive, we realized that there must be some medical issues that prevent pregnancy.
Difficulty getting pregnant: our first IVF consultation
So, we decided to visit an infertility specialist and diagnose the issue. We first visited a fertility hospital in our locality. The doctors there diagnosed that I have a thin endometrium that affects implantation.
There doctors assured us that it was a minor issue and that we needed to undergo IUI to time the ovulation right and enable implantation when my endometrium was ready.
We agreed and underwent two IUI cycles. However, both cycles ended up in failure. It seemed that IUI was not the right choice for us. We then decided to change our facility hospital and do our research.
That is when we came across The Hive Fertility and Women’s Centre. We wanted to have a higher chance of success in this hospital. So we did thorough research and consulted our friends and family about this hospital.
After getting positive feedback, we visited the clinic for our fertility consultation. We have already experienced two IUI failures, so we were still skeptical about the hospital.
Visiting The Hive Fertility Centre
Our first fertility consultation at The Hive Fertility Centre went smoothly. The doctors and staff there were very empathetic about our condition and very supportive.
They first ran all kinds of tests on us to determine the root cause of our infertility issue. Though our previous hospital had already stated that I had a thin endometrium, Dr Rukkayal Fathima wanted to be sure and tested us again.
It looks like during my previous IUI treatment, my endometrium has cured a bit, and I will only need a little bit of medication to make it ready for fertilization.
On the other hand, Dr Rukkayal also found some issues with my husband that my previous hospital did not. It seemed that the quality of my husband’s sperm was low. This and my thin endometrium might have been the cause of my previous IUI failures.
Undergoing My First IVF Cycle
We discussed this with Dr.Rukkayal, and to be on the safer side, we decided to undergo IVF treatment. This was a new procedure for me, and honestly, the medications and the egg retrieval procedures were a little daunting for me.
However, Dr Rukkayal stayed with me throughout the treatment and guided me at every stage. Finally, after much struggle, I underwent the embryo transfer procedure.
The two weeks after the procedure were very stressful. We had already experienced two failed IUIs; we didn’t want to experience a failed IVF, too. The doctors helped us as much as they could with the IVF cost, but still, it was a bit expensive for us.
Having a positive pregnancy test: a dream come true
After two weeks of waiting, I took my urine pregnancy test at home. When I saw the two pink lines on the test kit, I was scared, so my husband and I immediately came to our doctor for confirmation.
Dr Rukkayal Fathima took a blood pregnancy test and confirmed that I was indeed pregnant. We couldn’t believe that my very first IVF cycle would be a success. Given my luck with IUI, I thought that I might need to undergo two or three IVF cycles to get pregnant.
Also, it is a fact that my fertility specialists have put their best efforts into this as much as I have. They stayed with me throughout the journey and ensured that I felt safe and reassured the entire time.
