Every woman wishes to have a pregnancy. Unfortunately, not everyone gets it easy. Some women have to do a little bit more work and might need help to get the boon.
This is what it was like for me when I discovered I couldn’t get pregnant naturally. My husband, Mohanasundaram, and I, Vembu, have been trying to have our own baby for about 3 years now.
Since we discovered our infertility, we have visited several fertility hospitals and undergoingundergone fertility treatments. However, that did not seem to help us achieve parenthood.
And lastly, our friend recommended The Hive Fertility and Women’s Centre. A friend of hers seemed to have been able to successfully get pregnant after receiving fertility treatment from the hospital.
First fertility consultation at The Hive Fertility Centre
After much deliberation, we decided to visit the fertility centre and see how it goes. Our first fertility consultation at The Hive went smoothly. We visited Dr. Rukkayal there.
She asked us to undergo several fertility tests to understand what the issue with our body was. It turned out that my husband and I both have low-quality sperm and eggs.
In the past, we underwent two IUI cycles. We couldn’t achieve pregnancy because the embryo formed was not of good quality and could not sustain the pregnancy.
So, after much testing and analysis, Dr. Rukkayal advised us to undergo an IVF cycle. It was my first IVF cycle, and I have read and seen several people say that IVF can be painful. So, I was anxious about the procedure. However, Dr. Rukkayal reassured me and encouraged me to undergo the procedure.
Undergoing IVF Treatments
The IVF procedure was not as painful as I expected it to be. However, there were minor side effects like nausea, bloating, etc. I consulted the nurses at the hospital, and they assured me that it was normal and would disappear in a few days.
After the ovulation induction and egg retrieval, the doctor asked us to wait for five days till we transferred the embryos. These five days are to monitor the embryos’ growth and select the ones that have the best chances of success.
She said that these 5-day embryos are called blastocyst embryos and have a higher chance of pregnancy than other embryos. So, we waited for five days, and then I underwent the embryo transfer procedure.
Testing for pregnancy
After about two weeks of waiting, I finally steeled my heart to take a pregnancy test. And guess what? I got a positive result. It was such an overwhelming moment for me and my husband.
We immediately went to Dr. Rukkayal and consulted her regarding our result. She then took a blood pregnancy test and confirmed my pregnancy. It was such a joyful period for both my husband and me.
And for all the months of my pregnancy, Dr. Rukkkayal and the other staff in the hospital guided me throughout and helped me navigate the journey.
It was a bit tiring, but the gift I got at the end was all the more worth it for all the efforts my husband and I put through. It was all thanks to our friend who introduced the best fertility centre in Chennai for us that we could live this happiness.
