People always say, “Happiness comes in pairs”. That is how it was for me and my husband when we held our twin babies in our arms. And that at the age of 40 after over 10 years of trying so hard to bear children, these two angels came as a happy surprise for us.
My name is Manjula, and my husband’s name is Narendran. We have been trying to get pregnant for 10 years now. After the first year of failing to achieve a natural pregnancy, we visited our first fertility clinic near our home.
Our First Fertility Consultation
We were diagnosed with unexplained infertility. We first underwent IUI. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t achieve implantation. And sometimes, even if implantation was successful, I couldn’t carry the pregnancy till full-term.
This really put our hopes down. The doctor then suggested we try IVF. We underwent about two cycles but couldn’t achieve pregnancy. That is when our doctor recommended we visit The Hive Fertility and Women’s Centre in Chennai for IVF treatment.
We were skeptical at first, but we really wanted to have our own baby, so we decided to consult The Hive fertility hospital and see how it went.
Our Experience At The Hive Fertility
Upon our first visit, the doctors and nurses there first did a detailed examination of me and my husband. We underwent several tests, and it seemed that my husband had some issues with the quality of his sperm. I also have some minor infertility issues related to implantation.
So, after identifying the cause, me and my husband both underwent treatments to improve our fertility and chances of success. We were asked to modify our lifestyle and forego some habits that have been affecting our health.
Then, the treatments started. We had to start from the beginning again. I underwent ovulation induction, and my husband took hormonal supplements to improve his sperm quality.
The procedure was almost the same as how it went in my previous hospital. The only difference is, unlike my previous hospital, where doctors performed the traditional method of IVF fertilization, the doctors at The Hive performed ICSI to achieve fertilization.
If you don’t know what ICSI is, it is like the advanced version of IVF. This method is said to have more chances of success than traditional IVF methods. This gave us renewed hope for success.
Also, Dr Niveditha noted that in my previous IVF cycles, we only transferred one embryo. So, she said that she would like to try transferring two embryos and see how it goes.
Undergoing Embryo Transfer: Fingers Crossed For A Positive Result
Everything was ready, and I underwent my embryo transfer with two embryos. We were really hopeful, but sadly, this IVF cycle was also a failure. It really affected me, and I was on the verge of giving up.
However, my doctors and my family convinced me to try just one more cycle. The doctor tested us again and decided to transfer three embryos this time.
We knew this would be a bit risky as there were chances of multiple pregnancies. Our doctors also warned us of this. However, my husband and I were desperate for a baby, and we were willing to try anything to have a little baby of our own.
So, eventually, I underwent my fourth IVF cycle with three embryos transferred. We were very anxious after the procedure, and I was under routine observation by our doctors.
Positive Pregnancy Result: The Beginning Of Our Happily Ever After
Two weeks later, I took my pregnancy test, and guess what, it was a positive result. It was a seriously overwhelming moment, and I was not ready to believe a pregnancy test kit so easily. I was also scared that I would feel betrayed if the actual result was negative.
So, my husband and I went to the hospital immediately and informed Dr.Niveditha of the results. She took a blood test, and it turned out that I was indeed pregnant.
It was such an unbelievable moment for us both, and we were very emotional. After some days, we went for an ultrasound scan to monitor whether the baby was growing well. And that is when we found out that I was actually pregnant with twins.
